PlaneSight is an ADS-B receiver intended for professional users with exceptional requirements. With sensitivity of -96dBm, PlaneSight outperforms practically every professional ADS-B receiver including many of those used for ATC services. Place the ADS-B antenna at a good location and the maximum range for detection of aircraft will be outstanding.

Multilateration supported

There are still many commercial aircraft supporting Mode S only. To detect those aircraft, a multilateration system is required. PlaneSight supports multilateration by providing accurate timestamping of the messages (down to nanosecond level). Such accurate timestamping is achieved using a 1PPS-capable GNSS-receiver and an FPGA working together.

Advanced FRUIT algorithms

Common SSR standards such as Mode A/C, Mode S and ADS-B do not support synchronized transmissions. Due to this, messages transmitted by aircraft may sometimes overlap each other at the ground station (the ADS-B receiver). This phenomenon is called FRUIT, False Replies Unsynchronized In Time. PlaneSight supports advanced algorithms to “repair” certain FRUIT-scenarios including a Mode A/C reply overlapping an ADS-B message.

Open source code

PlaneSight decodes all the data found in Mode S and ADS-B messages. In addition, each message is associated with RF-data (RSSI and noise level) and accurate timestamps for multilateration. Our enterprise customers always develop and run their own software on PlaneSight to stream or transfer the data to your own application. To kickstart your own development, Skysense can offer a starter kit, comprising source code with no license constraints whatsoever and binaries. In a few minutes, you will be up ‘n’ running.

PlaneSight is intended for indoor installation. With built-in support for Power over Ethernet (PoE) the device may be deployed very close to the ADS-B antenna while the Internet-router/PoE-injector may be as far as 100 meters away from the PlaneSight device.
